This ship is used in the colonisation of empty planet slots. Essential for any ambitious empire they enable a colony to be settled, upon landing the ship is deconstucted to provide the intial metal and crystal required to start developing a colony.
Be warned any resources sent in the cargo hold of a colony ship will be lost upon colonisation of a planet.

Don't build colony ships if you are not going to use them. If you need a new colony, build the ship and send it out. Leaving two or three idle colony ships lying around on your planet is asking for trouble.
