Robotics Factories reduce the time taken to construct buildings but not research times nor that of defensive structures. The base time required for construction is divided by (1 + level of Robotics Factory).

Robotics Factories have less of an effect for higher level upgrades. For example, the first level of a robotics factory will cut production time in half, but the ninth level will only cut the time by 1/10 of what it was at the eighth level. If a building takes 1 hour to build before you build your robotics factory, it will take 30 minutes after the factory is built, but if a building takes 1 hour to build with a level 8 robotics factory, it will take 54 minutes to build after the level 9 factory upgrade is built. Therefore, it is rarely worthwhile to upgrade the Robotics Factory beyond Level 10.

The formula for calculating the percentage of original build/upgrade time is (example: Level 1 Robotics factory is 50% original time, and Level 1 + 1 = 2, and since

When your factory is upgraded to level 10, you will be able (assuming that you have researched Computer Technology level 10) to build a Nanite Factory. Many OGame players prefer Nanite Factories because every level halves production time for buildings as well as for fleet and defense. However, Nanite Factories have a large base cost, so you will not be able to afford one until later in the game.

Some players choose to free up fields by partially or totally deconstructing the robotics factory after building the nanites to a reasonable level. While this is within the rules, it makes it impossible to upgrade the nanites in the future, and also lengthens construction time, multiplying it by if the factory were completely demolished.

The cost of Robotics Factory doubles for every level, the building cost formula for the next level being:

Base cost is 400 metal, 120 crystal and 200 deuterium.

Graph of robotic factory build time v level

Graph of build time versus level for robotics factory ; very visible are the data points from the table below and the trend line of the formula computed for it.

Build time v resource cost(2)

Graph of the build time multiplier versus the resource costs of the robotics factory (log10 scale).

As to help better understand the impact of keeping the robotics factory, leveling up further than level 10, or simply discarding it to free up fields, the graph of build time versus the level of the robotics factory and the graph of build time versus the factory's resource cost (with a metal base and 1:2:3 transfer rate) per level are given using the data of the table below.
