A Vault Planet is a planet that a player uses as his or her main plane, or hub. Resources are gathered from other planets to this location, which may have higher developed Facilities and Defenses.
While a common practice, it is rather risky as any Fleeter can identify it and focus attention there.
Basics[]
Vault Planets should generally the biggest planet that a player has, for they allow the most buildings. Home planets should not be a Vault, because they have limited numbers of fields. High level Facilities should also be built, as a Vault Planet should build most of your fleets, defenses, and do most of the research. Your Vault Planet should also supplies resources to the rest of your planets.
Vault Planets are mainly used by Turtlers and Miners. For a Fleeter however, your planets should be spread out so that you won't be frequently attacked. In that case, it is unnecessary to have a vault planet. You should have a balanced amount of buildings and ships on each planet.
Downsides and Alternate[]
While the use of a vault or main planet is an attractive idea to new players, it can be risky. An opponent can quickly find out which planet you base your fleet from, since spy reports will reveal your vault. Even if you fleetsave, knowing the planet you are using is a key towards a crash. Further, if a player builds mine levels higher on this planet than others, it is very inefficient in use of resources.
An alternate approach is to build each planet identically. This is the most efficient way to build mines in terms or return on investment. Keeping them the same level on all planets is the optimal mining approach. Further, by building facilities to the same level on each planet, you can easily rotate which one you use as a "main" or "base" planet. Frequent rotation will keep fleeters guessing as to where you are operating from.
Tips[]
- It is suggested that you colonize your Vault Planet on slot position 8, as it has the most balanced temperature, so you can have a good amount of both Deuterium and Energy from Solar Satellites. Also, position 8 planets have the largest Field Count.
